Lil Wayne on The View: College, Drugs, and Diamond Braces

Lil Wayne must have been messing with us when he said that he rejects all written word except the dictionary a few months ago because the former child prodigy rapper has gone back to school.

In an appearance on The View today, Wayne said, “I started taking psychology classes at the University of Houston and I was actually going there physically, but that kind of got out of control so I switched to the University of Phoenix online.”

He credits his mother with inspiring his new educational pursuits: “I went back to school for my mom,” he continued, “because she actually took me out of school to pursue my career and it wasn’t even my idea… It was her idea and it was also her idea [for me] to not rap. So that was her showing me her effort that she’s behind me. So I got my tutor and I got my GED in like a month.”

Elizabeth Hasselbeck tried to confront Lil Wayne on his drug use, asking him if he has a dependence on substances like prescription cough medicine and marijuana. “I depend on God and motivation and I don’t depend on cough syrup and marijuana,” he responded, to applause from the audience. “No, I never have. In terms of smoking, I love to smoke, yes.”
