MP3s Today: Rufus Wainwright, Betty LaVette, Ben Kweller, Nina Nastasia

We enjoyed snippets from the new Shel Silverstein tribute album this morning for sure, but if you’re like me, a free MP3 is still where it’s at. Here are a few standout tracks from the download queue today…

  • Rufus Wainwright dropped the opening track from his forthcoming album, All Days Are Nights: Songs for Lulu, at Stereogum. Stream/download “Where Are You New York?” here.
  • Betty LaVette covered the Rolling Stones’ “Salt of the Earth,” and Paste Magazine (whose taste in Tumblr following is exquisite, btw) have the exclusive.
  • Ben Kweller’s new tune “It All Happened (Somewhere in Mississippi)” has a few lyrics that make me cringe, but I quite enjoyed the song nonetheless. Snag the track at Esquire here.
  • Nina Nastasia’s new Steve Albini-produced record, Outlaster can now be previewed, via the songYou’re A Holy Man” at Clash.
