Neko Case Sampled in Tacoma Tribute Rap – “Two Five Three”

As any Neko Case fanboyorgirl could tell you, the beloved solo artist/New Pornographers member fearlessly tells it like it is. To wit: Opening lines to Case’s Furnace Room Lullaby homage to her adopted hometown of Tacoma, Washington, “Thrice All American,” spoke plenty enough truth for sampling on rapper Fice’s new tribute to their favorite area code, “Two Five Three.” As Seattle TimesAndrew Matson points out, Fice obtained the rights to Case’s ode to their “dusty old jewel in the South Puget Sound,” and then unleashed 5 minutes of love for the place “where the factories churn and the timber’s all cut down and life goes by slow.” Stream both of said Tacoma tunes below.

And if you need yet another reason to love Neko at this hour, enjoy a clip from the New Pornographers’ Friday night show in Boston in which an audience member throws a CD at A.C. Newman and Case challenges the perpetrator to a fight.
