For the second single to get the video treatment off his excellent new album, Been Listening, English singer-songwriter Johnny Flynn enlisted the animation skills of Christian DeVita, lead storyboard artist for Wes Anderson’s Fantastic Mr. Fox and current Tim Burton collaborator on an upcoming Frankenweenie remake. Through a loosely-stringed sequence of black and white sketches, DeVita’s take on “Barnacled Warship” connects imagery from the biblical story of the Tree of Knowledge to a stark (The Wall-esque) industrial setting, providing an appropriately opaque backdrop to Flynn’s cryptic lyrical themes.
