Save for Rasputina’s take on “Rock and Roll,” Lissie’s “Stairway to Heaven”, and a few others, decent Led Zeppelin covers are hard to come by. Perhaps that’s why From The Land of Ice And Snow: The Songs of Led Zeppelin, a daunting double-disc effort featuring a few familiar names alongside a slew of up-and-comers, made me a bit nervous. Enter Laura Veirs and Mount Analog: Fingertips Music has a free and legal download of Veirs and friends’ quite brilliant recording of Led Zep’s “The Ocean” off said tribute album, which, in just under 4 minutes, has reinvigorated my interest in the project.
