While there are a few lesser-quality clips floating around the Web of Bright Eyes performing new songs on their first string of dates in support of The People’s Key, it’s this video of Conor Oberst and Nate Walcott’s beautifully trumpet-adorned take on I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning single “Lua” that resonates the most for a number of reasons. Not only is it fun to hear how this forlorn number can still pull at your heartstrings after over a half-decade, but I also loved the way Oberst (with help from a couple of shushers) keeps an impending sing-along distraction at bay by slightly playing with the melody and lyrics. “Good old Julie knows” how to keep a quiet moment special.
