Heavy stuff, indeed. Inspired by the death of Danny Seim’s mother when he was a teenager and Justin Harris’ single parent home growing up, Menomena’s new LP, Moms, comes out swinging on lead single “Heavy Is As Heavy Does.” (Given the backstory, even the Forrest Gump reference isn’t so light.) The good news is it’s a damn fine tune, complete with raw confessions against a pretty melody before a Guitar Freakout of the Year contender arrives to seemingly saw through the opening lyric’s “family tree.” This record should leave a mark on September 18th.
