While Tame Impala’s 6-minute teaser track, “Apocalypse Dreams,” laid out a sprawling, psychedelic landscape for LP2, the first official single keeps things a bit more focused. Built around a fuzzed-out pulse bled from ’70s classic rock, “Elephant” manages to pack the Australian band’s most endearing elements into a tight few minutes. There’s even a hint of John Lennon in Kevin Parker’s stuttering vocal approach. Spin the new cut above.
