Johnny Cash: She Used to Love Me a Lot

Johnny Cash She Used To Love Me A LotMuch deserved attention has been given to Cash’s final decade recording with Rick Rubin, but here’s proof more unheard gems should be mined from earlier in his half-century-long vaults. “She Used to Love Me a Lot” was found by Cash’s son, orphaned from early ’80s sessions with producer Billy Sherrill when Columbia Records foolishly dropped the legend from their roster. “I really love this song,” says John Carter Cash. “The depth that’s there reminds me of the real serious stuff that Dad did later in his life.” That’s a bold statement, given the great set of work he’s relating it to, but 30 seconds into this cut finds it right on point. More from these sessions are due on March 25th via the new archival release, Out Among the Stars.
