Upon visiting Wilco’s Chicago studio earlier this year, Duluth indie band Low caught a glimpse at Jeff Tweedy’s next producing effort — a follow-up<\/a> to the 2010 Mavis Staples record You Are Not Alone<\/a> —\u00a0<\/em>that led to talk of an LP collaboration of their own. “What really converted us was hearing the new Mavis Staples tracks they were working on \u2014 big, simple, raw and intimate,” says Alan Sparhawk. “Plans were made then and there.”<\/p>\n The result is\u00a0The Invisible Way<\/em>, an 11-track set featuring “starker, unadorned soundscapes, layered harmonies and drummer\/vocalist extraordinaire Mimi Parker singing lead on five songs.”\u00a0Tom Schick, who’s recorded Wilco, Ryan Adams, and many others of note, engineered the project, arriving on March 19th via Sub Pop.<\/p>\n Today we have a tantalizingly short and unrevealing clip from the studio, but in the meantime, Low also shared a live EP featuring Ben Gibbard on the opening track and new song “Waiting.” Pick it up in exchange for an e-mail address below.<\/p>\n
