\"\"We don’t delve into musical theater too often around here, but today’s a big exception. Not only will Glen Hansard — one of our favorite singer-songwriters around — be getting his due yet again for the songs he wrote in the 2007 romantic indie film Once<\/em>, but Broadway’s take on our childhood’s favorite musical film, Newsies<\/em>, also made a splash with today’s big announcement from the Tony Awards. Tune in on June 10th to find out who takes home trophies, but in the meantime, let’s take a look at the nominations that caught our eyes and ears:<\/p>\n

Once, The Musical<\/a><\/em> got the nod for Best Musical among 10 other categories, including Best Actor in a Musical and Best Actress, for co-stars\u00a0Steve Kazee and\u00a0Cristin Milioti respectively. The movie version of Once<\/em> won an Oscar for Hansard’s Best Original Song, “Falling Slowly,” back in 2008.\u00a0Newsies<\/em>, which received 8 nominations in total, was also nominated for Best Musical, as well as Best Actor in a Leading Role for Jeremy Jordan. Meanwhile, another film-turned-musical we loved this year,\u00a0Bonnie & Clyde<\/em>, landed an appearance on the list for Best Original Score and Best Actress Performance in a Leading Role by Laura Osnes, who starred as\u00a0Bonnie Parker, Faye Dunaway’s character in the classic film.<\/p>\n
