Watching the recent documentary Gasland<\/em> this week was not only an\u00a0eye-opening experience, but the excellent score and soundtrack piqued interest as well. During one particularly poignant moment, writer\/director Josh Fox used Radiohead’s “4 Minute Warning,” a foreboding cut off the band’s In Rainbows<\/em> LP. There’s just something in Thom Yorke’s voice that conveys a keen sense of both\u00a0indignation and sadness, fitting perfectly with the viewer experience of learning about this problematic (at best) and catastrophic (at worst) industry.<\/p>\n

Also notable with regard to this soundtrack cut is the fact that Radiohead rarely allow their songs to be used in films, save for documentaries — ones that usually provide an enlightening look at a cause they support. The best current example of this would be the new film The Island President<\/a><\/em>, for which they contributed a whopping 14 tracks. That film follows the plight of\u00a0the president of the Republic of Maldives as he strives to prevent his country from being buried underwater due to climate change.<\/p>\n

As for Gasland<\/em>, the Radiohead’s song is a mere side note in terms of the film’s relevance. Here’s hoping noting this tune here will encourage more people to check it out — it isn’t an easy doc to watch, but it’s important for that very reason.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
