Despite its title, Sharon Van Etten’s new album, Epic, is one of the most gloriously understated records of the year. Not that she isn’t ready to take on epic stadium anthems, though, as evidenced by some live footage that popped up over the weekend, in which Van Etten was backed by José González and his band Junip for a promising take on U2’s 1987 smash, “With or Without You,” unleashed amid a droning bed of rhythm.
