Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross Nominated for Golden Globes

*Update: He won!

While Trent Reznor is certainly no fan of award shows — describing the Grammy Awards earlier this year as “the old guard/old media propping up their puppets trying to convince the outside world (and each other) they’re relevant” — the Nine Inch Nails/How To Destroy Angels rocker better dust off the tux come January: Reznor and Atticus Ross were nominated for a Golden Globe this morning for their original score to The Social Network.

I’ll be rooting for the T-Rez and Ross, as there’s no question that their score added a necessary darker dimension to director David Fincher’s deliberately sensationalized depiction of the founding of Facebook, not to mention it would be fun to hear his acceptance speech, but they are up against some stiff competition: award show regulars A. R. Rahman for 127 Hours, Alexandre Desplat for The King’s Speech, Danny Elfman for Alice in Wonderland, and Hans Zimmer for his excellent Inception score (shouldn’t Edith Piaf get some credit, too?).

Dead Man’s Bones frontman Ryan Gosling also received a nod for his co-starring role in Blue Valentine. Check out the full list of nominations here.

*Update: Reznor reacts to the nomination (via Variety):

When I took this project on it wasn’t even in my realm of my awareness that this could happen. When you’re working you lose objectivity. Watching the reaction has been overwhelming and I am taking some kind of pride that this industry has accepted the film and my score.
