Kristian Matsson Covers Thin Lizzy, Previews Soundtrack

Tallest Man On Earth Thin Lizzy CoverThe Tallest Man On Earth has been branching out from his solo-acoustic roots of late, contributing songs with partner Amanda Bergman to a film , debuting new material with a live backing band, and — tonight — leading a group through Thin Lizzy’s late-’70s rock anthem “Dancing in the Moonlight (It’s Caught Me in Its Spotlight)” on Swedish television. Watch Matsson perform the latter for På Spåret above (he also does Swedish folk tune “En Fattig Trubadur” at 51:30 here).

Meanwhile, director Gorki Glaser-Müller shared a promising glimpse at a new Bergman and Mattson duet in a trailer for Once A Year, his forthcoming romantic drama that features seven compositions from the pair. Hear a gorgeous minute of “Some Will Spare You” below.

Idiot Wind Amanda Bergman
When we first introduced Amanda Bergman earlier this summer, copies of her self-titled debut EP as Idiot Wind were hard to come by, not to mention authorized video clips or an official website. All that’s changed, though, as the Tallest Man on Earth’s new film score and duet partner now has her own page — complete with a full stream of the EP, bonus tracks, and a link to purchase the record. We also have a Johan Stolpe-created video, featuring performances of unreleased track “Try To Bend A River” and a cover of “Big Red Sun Blues,” off Lucinda Williams’ eponymous 1988 debut, backed by electric piano in an open field. Check out the clip (you can’t really see her sing until the Williams take at the 3:30 mark) above. Idiot Wind has, by far, one of the best new voices of 2011.

Video: Idiot Wind ft. Tallest Man – “Heart Is Like a River” (Live)

We’ve seen them perform a Tallest Man on Earth tune as a moving duet, but now it’s Kristian Matsson’s turn to harmonize with an Idiot Wind composition. Watch as Amanda Bergman leads her future film soundtrack partner through an electric piano and guitar-backed take on a gorgeous song we’re tentatively dubbing (due to the repeated lyric) “Heart Is Like a River,” live in Stockholm, Sweden last night.
