Our first sampling of PJ Harvey’s eighth studio album, Let England Shake, has arrived in the form of “Written On The Forehead,” the LP’s 11th track, which Harvey posted on her official site moments ago. While I don’t hear much of the autoharp she said would be prominent on the new record, there are plenty of those “darker keys” Harvey discussed in the spring. Oddly, the vocals remind me a bit of Rasputina’s Melora Creager in this cut. It’s an intriguing step forward for Harvey, who — as a commenter on the Soundcloud above aptly put it — “hasn’t repeated herself yet.”
