Last month we introduced SUMIE, the new solo project from Sandra Sumie Nagano debuting in December on Bella Union. Much of what we loved from “Show Talked Windows” — hypnotic acoustic patterns, intimate yet soul-deep folk vocals — remains on the second taste, “Speed Into.” But this time around, an echo-drenched cello adds deeper dimensions to the palette, giving the cut a dissonant edge that resolves into a long sigh of relief, an exhale disappearing in the coda.
