Jeff Tweedy Producing Low Album, 2nd Mavis Staples LP

Jeff Tweedy Producing Low AlbumWilco are busy on the road at the moment promoting their new album, The Whole Love, but their busy tour itinerary hasn’t kept Jeff Tweedy from finding time for a few new producing projects in the meantime. First up, we’ve known that a second collaboration with Mavis Staples was in the works, but now comes word that the LP is nearly in the can: “Finishing another Mavis Staples record soon,” Tweedy told KCRW in an interview ahead of Wilco’s Hollywood Bowl show in Los Angeles next week. As fans of their first effort together, the Tweedy-produced You Are Not Alonewe can’t wait to hear what he has in store for the next set by the living legend.

What’s more, Tweedy has taken one of the best indie-rock groups around under his wing, as well. “Actually, I’m working on a record right now with the band Low from Minnesota,” he said in that same radio Q&A in addition to an interview with AV Club earlier this month.

There doesn’t appear to be new Wilco studio material in the works at the moment, but at least we’ll have a few new Tweedy-related records to look forward to in the immediate future. Not to mention, Low’s C’mon LP was an underrated standout last year, so it’s welcome news to hear they’re keeping the ball rolling after the 4-year gap before that set.
