For his forthcoming album, Compass, Jamie Lidell enlisted the likes of Beck, Grizzly Bear’s Chris Taylor, Feist, Wilco’s Pat Sansone, and others to help free him from the constraints of overly-premeditated songwriting.
“I wrote every song in a month,” Lidell said in a statement earlier this month. “It’s been an emotional couple of years, so I tapped into what I wanted to say and started writing.”
Truth be told, both Lidell’s new song “The Ring” and the title track off Compass, are two of the most interesting recordings I’ve heard from the talented singer/songwriter, and I think something related to the above quote is the reason.
