Watch: Phosphorescent Live at SXSW – “At Death, A Proclamation”

We have over a month to go until Phosphorescent’s official (non-cover album) follow-up to 2007’s Pride hits shelves, making now the perfect time to become acquainted with their back catalog — at least for those of us new to frontman Matthew Houck’s musict. Be sure to check out the details to the forthcoming LP, Here’s to Taking It Easy, but when you’re done with that, this video from last week’s SXSW festival in Austin will keep you in good spirits.

It takes them a minute or two to get cooking, as even Houck acknowledges at the end: “[We’re] getting warmed up.” But it’s worth the wait, as Phosphorescent beautifully sinks into the jam with time. Midway through, they’re like Grateful Dead meets Wilco, and it’s hard not to wish you were in the front row.
